Herb Streitz Spirit Award

The Herb Streitz Spirit Award is awarded to one band every year at the Waseca Marching Classic who best demonstrates the pride, spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness and unity desired of all high school band persons. This special award is named after one of Waseca's most beloved citizens, Herb Streitz, who brought the passion of music to Waseca schools. 

"Herb moved to Waseca in 1940, where he was the band director until 1969, except for two years of service with the US Navy Bands during World War II.  The Waseca Band program, as we know it today, would not have been possible without the passion and tenacity Herb brought to our school and community.  He was also an honored athlete in baseball and tennis, a coach for the American Legion Baseball Program, and an active community member in many organizations."  - Deron Jimmerson

The Herb Streitz Memorial Band Fund was created several years ago in Herb's honor, which assists lower income families to be able to afford band instruments so they are able to participate in the band programs in Waseca. Several thousands of dollars are donated each year by this fund which is managed by the Waseca Area Foundation and Waseca Band Boosters.
